What with gearing up for and taking finals, (mostly) cold weather—although here in DC the weather has been a bit schizo—and having to come up with creative gifts for friends and family, the holidays are kind of a lot to handle. That’s why we created a CollegeCraig Holiday Gift Guide with 40 gift ideas. From your mom to your BFF, we’ve got you covered.

4 Halloween Fixers from CollegeCraig

AHHHH! Fright Night is here people, and while the East Coast may have been left a soggy, wet mess by the monstrous Sandy it’s no reason to let this opportunity for fun pass us by. If you’re freaking out a bit about All Hallows Eve—quit it. We’re always on the lookout for ways to make life easier, so here’s a handy four-part Halloween help list. Read on and relax, CollegeCraig has your back.

1. Problem: You went HAM on costume procrastination, just like you did with last year’s spring take-home finals. Solution: Worry not, we can save you from having to go as a cereal killer dude (again) or skanky zombie chick. Check out these lists of last-minute costumes from Refinery 29, The Corp, Huffington Post, and GQ. Or you could just be Jack Jr.

2. Problem: You went stir crazy and ate all your Halloween food during Sandy. You can’t possibly trick or treat, I mean, “go out” on an empty stomach. Solution: Kill two birds with one stone (muah ha ha): Be festive and eat all the Halloween cereal that exists. If this seems impractical to you, you aren’t trying hard enough.

3. Problem: You, a 21+ mature adult, went stir crazy and drank all your Halloween liquor during Sandy. Solution: Eater DC did us all a solid and made this list of places with spooky spirits all over DC. Try not to get too #halloweenfaded

4. Problem: Hallo-whatever. You’re suffering from a terrible case of ennui. You can’t even stomach Snickers, so obviously this is bad. Solution: Watch this cool music video for the band The Boxing Lesson featuring these monsters that roam around Austin, Texas. Monsters are awesome and so is Halloween. Get it together.

Bonus Halloween music idea: Put Thriller on loop for 4 hours and dance. This might sound cray, but we swear it’s really fun. Seriously. Look at all the fun they’re having!

Hi Friends!

It’s been a while since we lasted Tumblr-ed together, but don’t worry that time was well spent on our end. CollegeCraig went on a brief hiatus over the summer and early fall. We did some soul searching, traveling, and learning; we tried to soak up all that we could to make CollegeCraig even better for you.

As of today CollegeCraig is back in action and we’ve got a ton of cool stuff coming up. We couldn’t be more excited or more eager to reach new students and schools, and really become a beneficial part of your communities.

Over the next few weeks we’ll be revealing some new additions to our school lineup, pushing out some new site additions, having some awesome events, and helping you get to know us a little better. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let us know! Email info@collegecraig.org.

We have been receiving heaps of job applications lately as CollegeCraig picks up steam. In addition to blushing at the interest, we typically respond to the applicants with a simple preliminary query: “Why do you want to work with our swashbuckling gaggle in the first place?”

The question doesn’t seem to really have a right or wrong answer, but that is not to say that I don’t have a favorite response in mind when we ask. So allow me make it a tad easier on any future CC applicants and explain my preference.

Throughout my own professional life, my career mentors have always stressed the significance of the quality of people with whom you work. In the past, I always thought that was just a cute interview response to our question. However, the process of bootstrapping this start-up exposed a newfound understanding for the value of a great team. The importance of which is only magnified when working on a new business.

Working on a start-up requires an unyielding amount of dedication and self-motivation. There’s no one cutting you a check at the end of the day, no ladder to climb, and no brand name to bolster your resume. Instead, there is a group of people and – if you’re lucky – an idea that they all collectively believe in.

That is what we have at CollegeCraig; we are a team of five full-timers who truly buy into the idea of building safer, stronger, and more efficient online university communities. A lot of our group-effort mentality comes from an incredibly flat organizational culture. We appreciate the importance of taking advantage of each of our own distinct talents, and we make sure that everyone’s opinion is solicited and considered. It has become our second-nature to get an internal second-opinion.

That sense of constant collaboration is a point of pride and a source of creativity for our business. You will see the constructive results in the frequent reimagining of our site, development of additional features, and application of innovative marketing campaigns. Those positive outcomes are the product of a stellar starting five. And frankly, as a founder, I could not be more proud of our team. I am honored and fortunate to work alongside a group of brilliant coworkers/friends.

For that reason, I have a strong recommendation to any future CollegeCraig interviewees when asked why on earth they would want to work at CC: It’s all about the people that you would work with.
